America, a country unrivaled across the globe in every field from economics to technology to agriculture, was prepared to pour 75 billion dollars of taxpayers' money into conquering a country roughly the size of California. Many Americans saw the war as the only way to resolve a major (and yet undisclosed) threat from Iraq, while the peaceniks protested to the bitter end, but never came up with an alternative solution. So is there a better way to deal with threats to Americaxs security? The answer is: yes.
Next time the Pentagon is preparing to cross a border into, say, Iran or N. Korea, we should let the bankers step in to buy our enemies instead. $75 billion would be at the high end for a country rich in oil and potential profits; somewhere less geologically desirable might go for $50 billion , say; while some god-forsaken rock just guilty of harboring a few terrorists might go for a bargain 20 billion bucks. Not only would this approach control the damage to our economy, but it would silence warmongers and flower-wielding hippies alike, who would have to stop complaining for the obvious reason that we would no longer be killing people.
So stop taking the same old sides and start supporting the new, cool solution:
If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em.
